3 Ways to Reset Your Hormones

May 29, 2020 by Lance Richmond Leave a Comment

If you’ve tried everything under the sun to manage your health, but you still can’t lose weight and you just don’t feel good then your hormones might be to blame. If this is case you will need to work with your doctor to pinpoint what the exact issue is, but if you are searching for ways to reset your hormones so you can feel and look better then you can easily achieve this goal at home. Here are 3 ways to reset your hormones naturally with diet, exercise and a little bit of self-care.

Detox

One of the best ways to help your hormones reset so you can feel more balanced is to cut out anything that can cause any inflammation and to help your body detox from a buildup of toxins. This includes supporting your gut health with fiber, fermented foods to support immunity and a strong probiotic that will nurture the good bacteria and keep the bad bacteria in check. As difficult as it may be it’s also important to detox from stimulants like caffeine, which means giving up coffee, energy drinks, sodas and even tea and chocolate. The reason behind this is that caffeine could interfere with the hormones that help you enjoy restorative sleep and if you’re not well rested then it can throw your whole body off balance.

Take some time to go through items in your household that could be full of chemicals that interfere with optimal hormonal function. This includes your food, water, cleaning supplies, make up and other personal-care products and more. Make an effort to switch these items to the least toxic, most natural options that are available so that you limit your exposure to chemicals.

Lastly, take a look at the medications that you take, including both over the counter remedies and any prescription drugs. Ongoing exposure to medicines can really stress out your body and throw your hormones for a loop, which is why it’s important to always speak with your healthcare provider to ensure that the medications you are taking are not hurting you or creating an adverse reaction.

Diet

To help reinstate a healthy weight and to correct a hormonal imbalance you need to start with your diet and change the way you eat and drink. To do this you will need to remove sugars and sugar substitutes, processed foods and refined carbohydrates from your diet. Try to stay away from gluten and alcohol as well because these foods can really stress out your endocrine system as well as your gut health and immune system. A nutritious diet combined with other healthy lifestyle changes and behaviors can really boost your hormonal health so you can feel your best. Some foods to add into your diet include:

  • High protein foods like eggs, almonds, chicken, oatmeal, yogurt, milk, broccoli, fish, quinoa and a wide variety of nuts.
  • Aim to eat healthy fats at every meal from sources like avocados, dark chocolate, fatty fish, chia seeds, extra virgin olive oil and coconut oil.
  • Drink green tea, which contains an antioxidant that offers numerous health benefits.
  • Drink plenty of water and stay away from sugary beverages like soda, juice and energy drinks.
  • Consume high fiber foods like pears, bananas, berries, beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts, lentils, beans, sweet potatoes, oats and nuts.

Once you have your diet under control it’s also important to exercise and move your body. Choose activities that you’ll enjoy instead of committing to something because you feel you have to. Some great exercise options include Pilates, running, dance classes, cross training and spin classes. These types of exercises utilize small weights and body resistance, which is great for getting your heart rate up and preventing any serious injury. Exercise is incredibly efficient in raising your cortisol levels and providing long lasting health benefits. If you’re still looking for ways to reset your hormones, there are also supplements you can take to help improve your health.

Self-Care

Sometimes all you need is some extra rest and self-care to help manage any stress and anxiety that is causing your hormones to go haywire. Take the time to read a book, meditate, take a yoga class, go to a spa for an indulgent massage, watch a funny movie, plan a weekend getaway or simply spend some time with friends and family so you can feel more relaxed and at ease.
