When the cool winter months come along, so do the holiday feasts. As cooler temperatures and shorter days set in, it becomes increasingly difficult to find the motivation to want to head outdoors, or to an indoor gym, to be active – we basically enter human hibernation mode. This combination of seasonal fatigue and cold winter weather can make it really hard to stay fit towards the end of the year. Enjoying an impressive holiday feast and sleeping in quickly becomes the norm, but it doesn’t have to be! It’s still very possible to stay fit during the cold winter months and continue to achieve your wellness goals year-round. Experts recommend that you exercise for at least thirty minutes five days a week, however, even 10-15 minutes of active movement can contribute to weight loss and get your blood pumping!
Set Goals
It’s so much easier to stay on task when you have a goal in mind that you’re looking to achieve. Little weight loss and fitness goals peppered over a long period of time are more realistic and easier to achieve than trying to lose 20 pounds in one month. By starting with an end goal in mind and setting little weekly or monthly milestones to achieve, you are more likely to succeed.
Exercise Indoors
If you are not able to withstand the cold winter temperatures, then bring your fitness indoors! There are many ways to stay active indoors including signing up for a gym membership, taking a yoga class at a studio or following along with training videos in the comfort of your own home.
Try Winter Sports
Did you know that enjoyable winter hobbies like ice skating and skiing are considered to be exercise? If you are being active and moving around – then it counts! Even playing in the snow all day with your family and building a snowman, or shoveling snow from your driveway burns calories, just make sure to bundle up!
Work Out with a Friend
Partnering up to achieve your fitness goals can be a great way to socialize with friends and family while also holding each other accountable. If you set a date and time to meet someone at the gym then you are more likely to follow through, because you won’t want to leave that person hanging. Working out with a friend is also a great way to explore different types of fitness, like yoga, Zumba, boxing and more.
Schedule Gym Time
It’s always difficult to make yourself get up and get going to work out, but this becomes even more challenging during the cold winter months because you don’t want to leave the warmth and comfort of home. If you schedule your workouts and write them down in your calendar, then they simply become part of your schedule and a task that you can check off at the end of the day. If you log your exercise it will also help you track progress and achievements, which can be very motivating.
Stay Warm
If you absolutely can’t give up your outdoor running routine, whether rain, sun or snow, then it’s very important that you prepare for the cold when working out outdoors. Cold air can make outdoor fitness challenging and trigger chest pain or trouble breathing, so make sure to layer up with thermal workout clothes, wear a warm beanie, put on some gloves and wrap a scarf around your neck.
Consider a Weight Loss Program
If the winter season has arrived and you are already struggling to maintain your active and fit lifestyle, then consider looking into a structured weight loss program. Crash diets don’t work, it’s as simple as that. The A New Me weight loss program is designed to burn abnormal fat reserves while helping your body absorb the vitamins and nutrients that are necessary. Combined with a low-calorie meal plan, this program is designed to trick and reset your hypothalamus so that you can burn more calories per day and lose weight quickly.
